Our study tour focuses on aspects of the Lancaster University campus that match with the Big Conversation 2025 theme. We will be looking at solar and wind power, among the many ways in which Lancaster is working to get to net zero carbon. The visit will also include the Lancaster University Management School (a current energy-efficient refurbishment of a 1970s facility), and Energy Centre (where the focus will be on decarbonising the Lancaster heat network and the ongoing construction of one of the UK’s largest heat pump energy centres). These sites will provide a jumping off point for our discussions throughout the day as we reflect on what we see and have learnt. Travel around the site by bus/coach will be provided.
Panel session to cover the journeys being taken to net zero energy; the challenges, funding opportunities, energy security, opex and capex implications and the operation of renewables in the existing built environment.
